Description: Brian Tom, America’s Visionary Speaker, talks to STEP one students ranging in ages 16-22 about identifying their “Vision” and presenting their disability in a positive way that projects confidence. This is in preparation for job interviews for employment.
On July 27, I had the great pleasure of attending the presentation that Brian gave on behalf of Blind Start of America to Junior Blind of America’s 17 students in the Student Transition & Enrichment Program (STEP) One. Here is a brief description and summary of the presentation.
The main objective was to prepare these 16-22 year old students on presenting themselves and their disability in a positive way that projects confidence. This is in preparation for their mock interviews and future interviews. One student took the message home by saying “If you are not confident in yourself, who will be?” Another student was actually given a spontaneous real interview scheduled for the following day! So this presentation came in handy.
Positive highlights were that the students were able to place down on paper/braille paper their “visions,” and Brian was able to give them tools on how to work towards achieving them. Some vocations and careers mentioned were entrepreneur, cashier, judge, singer, preschool teacher, counselors, mechanic, gospel singer, cartoon artist, and accountant.

I hope more peole are made aware of what Brian Tom of Blind Start of American is doing to help blind or vision impaired students to take their steps towards independence by learning how to go for job interviews with confidence.
I would try to solicit sponsors for Blind Start of America’s Visionary Experience…Blindfolded Benefit event. This is a very worthy cause and Brian Tom is a great role model and example that a blind or vision impaired person can become independent and lead a productive life!
Let’s help get the name of Blind Start America out into the community so that more people and organizations would lend their support to BSA!
