Blind Start of America's Dinner in the Dark

Dinner in the Dark provides visionary experience

to benefit Blind Start of America

An ultimate night of celebration, awareness and education is planned as Blind Start of America (BSA) presents Visionary Experience…Blindfolded: Dinner in the Dark. This unique event will be held on Saturday, October 10 at 5:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Cerritos (12725 Center Court Drive).

Guests will experience a menu of savory, pungent, sweet, sour and spicy flavors, all while blindfolded. A chef will be present throughout the meal to describe each dish. A donation of Niebaum-Coppola Estate wines selected specially for the Dinner in the Dark will be served, and a wine connoisseur will discuss them and their pairings. In addition to dinner, the evening will include entertainment and a silent and live auction led by Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe.

Entertainment will be provided by singer-actress Emy Baysic, singer Marleena Coulston, and the International Peace Choir.

Baysic is most notably known for playing the lead role of Kim in the hit musical “Miss Saigon” on Broadway in New York City. She has performed for President George W. Bush at the White House and has sung at several benefit concerts to raise money for charitable causes. In addition to performing on stage, Baysic has acted in both independent films and on the television shows “ER,” “Chicago Hope” and “Resurrection Boulevard.”

As a legally blind individual, Coulston has overcome many challenges in her life, but has been described by those close to her as one who faces adversity with courage and grace. Her musical versatility includes studio work, musical theater, cabaret and teaching.

The International Peace Choir has performed for presidents, kings and queens. It is made up of children ages 6 through 17, each of whom represents the country of his or her own ethnic, cultural or national background.

“Taste and see the goodness of giving. Your gift will positively change the life of a blind/visually impaired person,” remarked BSA President and Founder Brian Tom. “I invite everyone to experience and learn about the challenges faced by the blind. It will be a fun, educational and memorable evening.”

Tickets for the Dinner in the Dark are $150. Table sponsorships and ad sponsorships are available. To purchase tickets or for more information, contact BSA at (562) 282-0123 or visit www.blindstart.org.

BSA is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to help blind and visually impaired persons learn and develop job skills to enable them to ultimately lead lives of independence. “Independence is in sight.”
